Description
1979 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER FJ40 Power Steering /Air Conditioning US Specs ** Body Condition This Land Cruiser lived most of its life in South Carolina before I purchased it. Due to the exceptional care by the previous owner, rust was not a factor with this vehicle. It was repainted piece by piece using factor White (color code #031) in base coat clear coat.
No expense was spared with the paint work on this Land Cruiser. West Side Rods and Customs in Thomson, Georgia performed the work. The paint process consists of: 2 coats of polyester primer to seal the bare metal then any bodywork on top of it.
Follow that with 3 coats of polyester primer. It is then block sanded with 120 grit, 180 grit, then reprised with urethane primer. Finish sanded with 320 and 600 grit. 3 coats of base and 4 coats of clear are applied, color sanded, buffed and polished.
The hardtop had never been removed before painting. ** ALL STEEL ** No fiberglass, aluminum, rhino liner, or diamond plate on this beauty. New Toyota OEM parts include: front & rear door weatherstripping, roof weatherstripping, front & rear turn signal assemblies, mirrors, windshield, door hinge pins, 4wd & Toyota emblems, kick vent gaskets, license plate frame. ** Interior Condition All seat upholstery (new foam on front seats), headliner, and sun visors have been recovered. Front seat frames & roll bar have been powder coated.
Dash is original with no cuts or tears. Original Toyota mat with Lloyd custom mats over top. Under mats is custom sound deadener (not glued in). All dash controls, gauges, and lights in working order. Rare factory AIR CONDITIONING.
Jump seats and new seat belts in place. OEM tool kit, spare tire jack, and rods in original mountings. Sony AM / FM added for superior sound. ** Mechanical Condition 117,093 miles on stock Toyota six cylinder (2F 4.2 liter). 4-speed synchronized transmission 4-wheel drive, factory emission equipment intact.
Rare factory POWER STEERING. 5 NEW OEM wheels powder coat

Classic Toyota Land Cruiser Buyer's Guide (FJ40 / FJ55 / FJ60 / FJ62)
I approached my first Toyota Land Cruiser the way I approach every potential project: with a flashlight, a screwdriver, and a healthy skepticism about anything the seller told me. What I found was a vehicle engineered to a standard of mechanical integrity I hadn't encountered before — overbuilt axles, a bulletproof inline-six, and a simplicity of design that made every system accessible and rebuildable. That first FJ40 taught me why United Nations field teams, Australian outback farmers, and California trail enthusiasts all converged on the same truck. The challenge isn't whether to buy one — it's buying the right one, at the right price, in a market that has moved sharply upward.
