Description
1978 Mercury Grand Marquis Brougham. Very solid well maintained car with some nice extra factory options. Car runs and drives great, 400 v8 engine, cruise works, air conditioning and heat work excellent! Vacuum operated headlights work excellent and hold vacuum even when sitting for a long period of time.
Exterior of the car has original paint that is definitely showing its age and faded, not sure if a hard buffing job would bring it back to life or if a respray would be needed. Car did have a bug shield on it so two small holes above the headlights, only rust is in the common area on these cars in the corner of the hood. Vinyl top has been replaced and is in excellent condition.
Inside the car interior is in excellent condition, no cracks in the dash or seats, power windows work as they should. Only thing that has been replaced inside is the carpet. Trunk has original spare, jack, and carpet.
Car has a factory CB radio package but the CB is missing. Power Antenna works but is slow at times. Fuel gauge works when it wants to. Turn signal cancel cam needs replaced, about a $20 part at local parts store and a 30 minute job.
Overall very fun car to drive and gets attention everywhere it goes. Enjoy as is or take it to the next level! Car does have a nice dual exhaust setup that gives a great tone outside but is nice and quiet inside the car. Classic Mercury Grand Marquis Buyer's Guide
The Mercury Grand Marquis defined American full-size luxury motoring across thirty-six years of production (1975-2011). The 1975-1978 first-generation cars used the dramatic 460 V8 — the largest American passenger-car V8 of its era. The 1979 redesign moved the Grand Marquis to the legendary Panther platform shared with the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car — a body-on-frame chassis that remained in production for thirty-three years before discontinuation in 2011. The Panther-platform Grand Marquis is widely regarded as one of the most durable American sedans ever produced, with the 4.6L Modular V8 (1992-2011) commonly exceeding 250,000 miles in service. For collectors entering the classic American full-size luxury sedan segment today, the Grand Marquis represents exceptional value with strong parts support, reliable mechanicals, and increasing collector interest in the discontinued Panther platform.
