Description
1953 MG-TD Kit Car (VW Chassis) 4 speed stick shift, VW 1600cc Dual Port Engine This is about as rare as you could ever hope to find! Its a Fiberfab kit car of a 1953 MG-TD bought in 1990, but never finished until JULY 2023! It sat in pieces in the original owner's garage from 1990 - 2022. I purchased it from his widow, sadly he was not able to finish it. It sat covered in a garage for 32 years! It has the beautiful original red gelcoat.
I did all the paperwork, and have its first title- with 0002 miles on it. Car has never even been registered to plate it. Original builder went through all the drivetrain, engine, trans, new floorboards, and steering.
Have all his receipts for the kit, and all work done. (in the thousands). Never saw the sun, never abused, never drove, till I finished it in July, 2023. Has 6 actual miles driven on it down my side road to get the tune-up dialed in, and 30 miles on the speedo from towbar into a carshow.
I have all the receipts for the kit, and his parts and labor. 1953 MG-TD Kit car- VW chassis 1600 dual port engine. Full chrome dress up kits. Alternator, instead of generator. New Tires. New wire wheel covers.
New Touch Screen Android stereo with GPS, USB, and Bluetooth. New 350 watt speakers. New Safety glass windshield. New floors. New Rosewood MG steering wheel. New chrome mirrors. New Petronix Ignition - No more points.
New Wind Wings. New old school seatbelts. 1 owner title - 2 miles. New Battery. Short throw shifter kit installed. Doors: 2

MG TD Buyer's Guide
Emily Chen here. The MG TD has a specific place in automotive history that gets overlooked in the modern muscle-and-performance conversation: it was the car that created the American sports car market. Returning US servicemen who had driven MGs in postwar Europe came home wanting the same experience. The TD, exported to America in large numbers from 1949 to 1953, gave them that experience at a price that was, for the era, surprisingly accessible.
The TD is not a fast car. In a straight line, it will lose to almost anything. But "fast" was never the point — the point was the experience of piloting a responsive, tactile machine on a twisting road, where the mechanical directness and the low weight create a connection to the driving experience that no modern car replicates. This is the core of why sports cars exist, and the TD communicates it more purely than almost any car built in the past 50 years.
