Listing Description
1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty, SD455, numbers matching , Last of the true Muscle Cars. The Super Duty 455 shares VERY little with it's fellow 455's. In fact, many of it's components and designs came out of Pontiac's 366 cubic inch NASCAR program. This engine was designed as a full bore racing engine from the ground up, and was then 'adjusted' to appease the EPA. It TRULY IS a different animal from the block and heads to the carb and manifolds. In the minds of many, this exuberant limited-production Trans Am model is the very last in a long and glorious line of American muscle cars that were produced beginning in the early '60s and marked by some of the most outrageous and exciting street machines ever imagined. All SD 455 engines were hand assembled and came equipped with a reinforced block, special camshaft, aluminum pistons, oversize valves and exhaust manifolds that more closely resembled headers. Although the SD 455 engine was rated at 310 horsepower, it more likely produced closer to 370 horses, prompting enthusiasts to describe it as 'a street-legal race-prepared engine.' Along with an adrenaline-pumping engine, the Trans Am Super-Duty came in a comfortable, sporty package that has aged well in today's world. There were 731 of these pulse-racing '74 Trans Am's built with the Super Duty 455 package and Auto transmission.Doors: 2
