1964 Pontiac GTO

1964 Pontiac GTO is considered by many to be the first true muscle car. This occurred in the spring of 1963 when Pontiac chief engineer John DeLorean and staff engineers Bill Collins and Russ Gee realized how easy it would be to install the 389 cubic Inch V8 from the full sized Bonneville in place of the 326 V8 in the new '64 intermediate sized Tempest. The GTO was born and at the time no other manufacturer had anything comparable.  This car has Pontiac Historical Services documentation showing it was born with all the good stuff -- 348 horse power Tri-power engine, 4-speed close-ratio transmission, power steering, Starlight Black paint with red interior.  The engine has been recently rebuilt with the addition of a Competition roller cam and valve train. It still has stock appearance with the original chrome valve covers. The cam is a good compromise between performance and street drivability, and the new Flowmaster mufflers give it just enough rumble to announce that this is no ordinary car.  Many GTO's are sold at the well-known collector car auctions, but you rarely see 1964's, and those few that do pass over the auction blocks typically go for over $50,000.  owned this car for over 5 yearsDoors: 2
