Woodward Dream Cruise

The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world's largest single-day classic car event — 40,000+ classic cars and 1.5 million spectators lining a 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue through the Detroit suburbs. Held every third Saturday of August, the Dream Cruise celebrates the cruising culture that made Woodward Avenue legendary in the 1950s and 1960s. It's informal, loud, and completely American — no judging, no concours pretension, just cars, people, and the sound of V8s reverberating through Oakland County.

History

The Woodward Dream Cruise began in 1995, organized by Nelson House to raise money for a soccer field in Ferndale. The inaugural event attracted 250,000 people — organizers had expected 30,000. It became an annual tradition immediately and grew to its current scale within a few years. The timing is significant: Woodward Avenue was the epicenter of Detroit's Golden Age cruising scene, where factory engineers would test prototype performance cars against each other in the late 1950s and 1960s.
