1964 Chevrolet Bel-Air 2 Door Coupe with 60,000 miles. In 2003, we replaced the original 283 V8 at 43,000 miles with a 350 crate engine (still in car along with the PowerGlide automatic transmission). In 2004, I was driving to Bend for dinner and a movie, when the battery caught on fire, and I found myself on a literal “hot date.” Fortunately, the fire department used foam to quickly smother the surface fire in Ahern’s parking lot. There is some damage to the firewall, cracked front glass, and peeled paint on hood. The fire didn’t damage any of the metal, but it will need new paint and wiring in the engine bay, and a repaired speedometer in the cab. The Bel-Air was towed back to our farm and has sat under a hay shed for 20 years. I think it’s time to find it a new home with someone who can restore and get to enjoy it as much as I did. I also have the original 283 which is in great shape, but it might need a new head gasket. Super fun and unique car, floats like a boat, hope it finds a good home.
