1971 VW Bus! (Transporter) . I'm the 3rd owner and have cared for this amazing vehicle for over 20 years. Upsizing to a converted short bus to accommodate a growing family. For some strange reason, my wife doesn't want two busses... Almost entirely original other than the stereo and a couple small things, this little time capsule has a strong, professionally rebuilt engine with under 17,000 miles on it that starts right up and runs great, new tires with under 3,500 miles on them, and enough charm to make the grumpiest of passerby's light up and smile. I will miss so many things about this bus, especially all the smiles, waves and conversations it starts. Mostly though, I'll miss how happy it makes ME when I drive it. For some reason, it feels like you are floating when you are on the road and it really takes you back to simpler times. As is the case with most vehicles over 50 years old, it has some dings on the back end and some rust in the normal spots but nothing egregious and, thankfully, it still has the original baby blue paint job! No sneaky cover ups - what you see is what you get. I recently replaced the front brakes but it needs new back brakes (with master cylinder), boots and door locks. You'll want to get some new speakers too - I used some old home stereo speakers (see pic) that once sounded great but have gotten tired. This would be a strong candidate for a full restoration job or you could do what I always did and drive it as is in all it's soulful glory. If you are really interested, come take a peek. I literally have every single record from the day it was purchased new by the Yreka Veterinary Clinic in 1971 (the second owner ran a painting business with it and the bus served me well as a professional musician). I kept it in my garage until our recent move and I was meticulous about maintenance since it was my daily driver for so many years. The custom welded roof rack is simply amazing!
