Description
1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 partially restored project. I first found this Cat sitting in a body shop being restored, with a new interior in progress. Sitting in our pole barn since 1995 this is a rare classic has a clear title.
Unfortunately this rare S code has lost its luster as it has been in a pole barn ever since. Stored as a dream project for many years as it was buried in a barn behind 20 + cars where it sat. We finally pulled it out and brought it back to market to find a new owner, maybe you can bring the cat back to prowl the roads again.
This loaded out car has its original running 390 4 barrel motor with its functioning C6 automatic transmission. The motor is dressed with factory valve covers although the intake and carburetor were exchanged for a Holley carb and a Edelbrock aluminum intake (we can offer stock pieces just ask). The air conditioning and power steering are present but non functioning.
Factory equipped with power disc brakes and it has the 9 inch factory tough rear end assembly. There are all the comfort items even the convenience option with door, seat belt, low fuel, and parking brake warning lights. You will also enjoy the tilt kick away steering column.
These accessories are topped off by the upgraded deluxe interior heavy grained upholstery. Also features the deluxe steering wheel with the woodgrain trim as well as upper and lower consoles are some more of the many features of this luxury car. Equipped with the great options of factory Air Conditioning, Power steering, and Power disc brakes make it a desirable model as most of these had some but not all these options.
You find the original front end pieces including clean shock towers as well as the larger sway bar. The original 9 inch housing and shock area is all intact. All in all the car is pretty much all there missing very few odds and ends.
On the bottom it has seen floor pan repair but time has taken its toll. Now the body panel news, the original fenders are pretty clean.

Classic Mercury Cougar Buyer's Guide
The Mercury Cougar launched for 1967 as Mercury's upmarket pony car β sharing platform and drivetrains with the Ford Mustang but featuring distinctive styling (hidden headlights and sequential turn signals), slightly longer wheelbase, and more refined interior trim. The 1967-1973 first-generation Cougars represent the actively-collected era; the 1974-onward second-generation Cougars moved to the Torino platform and are dramatically less collectible. This guide focuses on the 1967-1973 first-generation cars, including the legendary 1968-1969 GT-E (with the 427 or 428 Cobra Jet V8, only 394 produced), the 1969-1970 Eliminator performance package, and the XR-7 high-trim luxury variants. From a collector standpoint, well-equipped first-generation Cougars represent the smart-money entry into Ford-platform pony-car ownership at slight discount versus equivalent Mustangs.
