Is a Firebird the same as a Camaro?

Quick Answer
No, but they are close cousins. The Pontiac Firebird and Chevrolet Camaro share the GM F-body platform and a lot of structure, but the Firebird uses Pontiac engines (400, 455, SD-455), its own front-end styling, and the Trans Am identity. Firebirds typically trade a bit below equivalent Camaros.

Same bones, different character.

What they share

The F-body platform, much of the body structure, and the overall size and layout.

What is different

The Firebird wears Pontiac's split-grille face, uses Pontiac V8s, and carries the Trans Am name and screaming-chicken aesthetic. The Camaro uses Chevrolet engines and the SS/Z28 hierarchy. For value, equivalent Firebirds often cost a little less, which makes them the value F-body.
