1978 VW superbeetle convertible. Cute little VW bug. It was a barn find. Sat in a barn for 20 years. Had the fuel injection system cleaned and flushed. Tuned it up. It was a Zippy little car. First two years we ran it around up in Door County with the top down.

A couple of weeks ago it wouldnt start. And I started to replace the faulty brake master cylinder because it needed to be done. I have the new one. Can't quite get it done. For some handy person this will be back to running around in no time.

I get asked often whether the Super Beetle or the standard Beetle is the better buy, and the answer depends entirely on what you want to do with it. The Super Beetle rides better, has more luggage space, and β€” from 1973 β€” a panoramic curved windshield that makes it feel substantially more modern. The standard Beetle is the purer, lighter, more original experience. For someone who wants to actually use an air-cooled VW on a regular basis and live with it, the Super Beetle is the more practical choice. For a purist who wants the definitive Beetle experience as Porsche intended it in the 1930s, the standard car wins. Both are legitimate. Know which you're buying.

What to Check Before Buying
