Description
1982 VW Vanagon L Westfalia. 4-speed manual transmission with 231,598 miles in Aswan Brown. The van runs fantastic, shifts great and the bones of the van are solid. In the last two years I had an additional oil cooler installed in front of the passenger side rear wheel to help with additional cooling here in Northern NM since its air-cooled.
I also added a tachometer in the dash and wired it in using plans I pulled off of here. The van is lifted 2" with the GoWesty lift kit on General Grabbers that have a lot of meat to them still. No rust on the frame/undercarriage of the van.
The canvas on the pop-top is in great shape with three screened openings. The refrigerator and kitchen all worked the last time I used them in 2020, but for all intents and purposes unsure of the current status. Fuel lines recently inspected and replaced as needed.
All paperwork/work that I had done on it from when I owned it from 2016 to now is available and will travel with the van when sold. The van will come with a brand new, never installed ARB awning with mounts and an entire pop top refurbishing kit to include the rubbers, hardware and decals (I was going to refinish/repaint it, but never got around to it). The van will also come with a GoalZero YETI400 power station and leveling blocks.
Things that will need work: - There is a tiny bit of work that needs to be done on the metal seam behind the kitchen (classic Westfalia issue), and the rain rail over the sliding door (why the awning was never installed). The clear coat has started to fade/flake and would likely need a new coat/some love soonish There a few other cosmetic pieces on the interior that don't bother me, but might be something you'd like to tend to. Body Style: Camper Van
Doors: 4
Fuel Type: Gas
Drive Type: RWD

Classic Volkswagen Vanagon Buyer's Guide (T3, 1980β1991)
People who haven't driven a Vanagon often assume it's just a newer Bus. It isn't. The T3 Vanagon is a fundamentally different vehicle β water-cooled from 1983 onward, wider track, more rigid body, dramatically better handling, and genuinely livable as a daily driver. The Westfalia camper conversion and the Syncro 4WD variant have built dedicated followings that have pushed prices to levels that would have seemed absurd a decade ago. The buying challenges are real β the early water-cooled engines have specific failure modes, and rust is still present β but a properly sorted Vanagon is one of the most genuinely useful and characterful vehicles in the classic segment.
