1965 Shelby built GT350 R “continuation” by a Shelby craftsman Brad Hornbaker that is loyal to the seventh and most famous GT350 R SFM5R098 car.
Cobra so named in honor of Shelby and on a personal note the owner flew the Army Cobra attack helicopter.
Cobra was built to dominate SCCA’s Autocross class “Classic American Muscle.”
Competitive Autocross cars must be able to accelerate, brake and handle.
Cobra is a 4 second 0-60 car. Her powertrain is a Prestige Motorsports custom 347 Stroker making 450 HP. The engine is still under an unlimited warranty.
Cobra’s drivetrain includes TREMEC Super Duty Cobra T5z 5-speed with Hydramax hydraulic actuated Mc Leod Super Street Pro clutch. The Panhandle Driveline 3.5 inch aluminum driveshaft turns a Shelby 9 inch Notchback K Code rear with a Speedway Engineering 3.89 posi with Moser 31 spline axles.
The track ready suspension ensures 1.17 skid pad results!!! QA1 coilovers and Maier Racing GEN 2 suspension with sub-frame connectors, panhard bar and 165 lb 4.5 mid eye springs keep Cobra planted to the ground!!
The race need cockpit is all about driver ergonomics with SCAT Pro Car Rallly buckets with aggressive side bolstering and Shelby embroidered head rests secure the driver. The GT350 R instrument cluster contains Shelby and Speed Hut gages. Flaming River electric PS and Ididit tilt column provides adjustable steering assist. Pedals are billet Wilwood swing mount. Brakes are Wilwood disc. Cobra’s trunk is upholstered and the trunk lid hinges are CVF billet. A Taylor spun aluminum battery box contains Cobra’s battery. Wheels and tires are Shelby.
