1965 Pontiac Restored GTO Why This Car Is Special We have a restored, laser straight, 1965 GTO here in our showroom at Skyway Classics. It is a 389 cubic inch engine stamped with the YS engine code, with a black Cordova top, Tripower, 4-speed transmission, repainted in the original coded Burgandy paint, and black interior. We have a complete history on our GTO as it was produced during the 4th week of June, 1965 at GM's Baltimore, Md assembly plant and sold new at Barbarino Pontiac in Wallingford, Ct. The original owner traded it back to the dealership in 1967. the 2nd owner had it for 19 years. he sold it to a professional paint & body man in 1986. A full frame-off restoration was begun in 1988. 10 years later in 1998, the goat was back on the road. After 46 years in the greater Hartford, Ct area, this owner became the car's 4th owner in June, 2011 and had the car shipped to Florida. It is a true numbers-matching car, meaning the block, transmission, and differential are all original something very rare to find in a muscle car. We think this is probably one of the best ones in the country and words cannot describe how nice this GTO is as you must see it to believe it. Features 1965 GTO Original numbers matching 389 Cubic inch V-8 engine Correct Pontiac blue painted engine block, heads, and intake Added Tri-Power Carb System Pontic chrome valve covers Power steering Power brakes 4 speed sync trans Dual exhausts Sports type spring & shocks Special 7 blade fan & fan clutch Interior has been completely freshened in the factory correct black vinyl Twin front bucket seats Matching rear seat Black Pontiac steering wheel Heater/defroster Pontiacs great dash with all the factory gauges wrapped in the woodgrain trim Correct chrome floor console with the chrome shifter with the white shifter ball Black carpeting and door panels Radio push button Rally gauge package Custom sports glass soft ray 5 coats of PPG Deltron enamel base followed by 5 coats of clear The color is a match to the car's original GM finish, which was called Burgundy by the Pontiac Black Cordova top Pontiac styled wheels Red line tires Mechanical Specs Our GTO has this is a documented 389 cubic inch engine that looks bad as can be with the Tri-Power System that was added (it was originally a four-barrel carb), the Pontiac blue painted block, heads, and intake, correct chrome valve covers, factory exhaust manifolds, power steering and power brakes, and dual exhaust. The engine has been rebuilt with forged aluminum alloy pistons, an eagle steel crank, and a variation of the high-performance ram-air iv cam that Pontiac introduced in 1968. Although the motor retains its original appearance, it has been bored and stroked from its original 389 cubic inches to 462 with the correct 1965 Tri-Power intake manifold and three 1965 Rochester carburetors installed at time of rebuild. The compression ratio is now 10.25: 1. it runs on 93 octane pump gas and produces a robust 440 horsepower at the rear wheels. Fuel economy is still around 10 mpg and to safety to help stop the car, they added power-assist disc brakes in front with Pontiac styled wheels and Red-Line Radial tires. One look at the engine and frame of our GTO and you can see the quality restoration and you will hear the rumbling exhaust note exits from the tips that and sounds fantastic. Interior The interior has been completely freshened in the factory correct black vinyl with the twin front bucket seats and matching rear seat, Black Pontiac steering wheel, Heater/defroster, Radio, Pontiacs great dash with all the factory gauges wrapped in the woodgrain trim, correct chrome floor console with the chrome shifter with the white shifter ball, black carpeting and door panels, and everything looking new since this is a real time-capsule of a GTO. Exterior Our 1965 GTO has had a restoration and it shows. The styling for 1965 has Pontiac's characteristic vertically stacked quad headlights, egg-crate grille, and fantastic trim and rubber. The car retains nearly all of its original sheet metal with the trunk floor replaced then refinished in 1998 with 5 coats of PPG Deltron enamel base followed by 5 coats of clear. The color is a match to the car's original GM finish, which was called Burgundy by the Pontiac. Conclusion Considered the true original street performance muscle car, the 1965 GTO like the one we have here at Skyway Classics, remains The Great One to many enthusiasts. This car has the right stuff featuring a restoration with the original numbers matching 389 cubic inch V-8 engine but modified with a performance rebuild and added correct date coded Tri-Power System, is immaculate and is the right GTO for you if you are a very serious collector.
