1966 Ford Mustang for sale in Mattituck, New York (ID-42585)
1966 Ford Mustang Convertible For SaleAn excellent example of the First Generation MustangMustang production began in March 1964 and official introduction following on April 17 at the 1964 World's Fair. Standard equipment for the early 1965 Mustangs included black front seat belts, a glove box light, and a padded dash board. Several changes to the Mustang occurred at the start of the "normal" 1965 model year. The engine lineup was changed, with a 200 cu in (3.3 L) "T-code" engine that produced 120 hp. The DC electrical generator was replaced by a new AC alternator on all Fords (a way to distinguish a 1964 from a 1965 is to see if the alternator light on the dash says "GEN" or "ALT"). The standard interior features of the 1965 Mustang included adjustable driver and passenger bucket seats, an AM radio, and a floor mounted shifter in a variety of color options. 1965 also saw a round gauge cluster. The 1966 Mustang debuted with moderate trim changes including a new grille, side ornamentation, wheel covers and gas cap. The Mustang would be the best-selling convertible in 1966, with 72,119 sold, beating the number two Impala by almost 2:1.The 1965 and 1966 Mustangs are differentiated by variations in the exterior, despite similar design. These variations include the emblem on the quarter-panels behind the doors. From August 1964 production, the emblem was a single vertical piece of chrome, while for 1966 models the emblem was smaller in height and had three horizontal bars extending from the design, resembling an "E". The front intake grilles and ornaments were also different. The 1965 front grille used a "honeycomb" pattern, while the 1966 version was a "slotted" style. While both model years used the "Horse and Corral" emblem on the grille, the 1965 had four bars extending from each side of the corral, while on the 1966, these bars were removed.Details on this 1966 Mustang Convertible This particular car is known as a "base" Mustang, what you ordered one in 1966 and said, "I want a Mustang Convertible." No options. Only the basics. The "T" code 200hp 6-cylinder engine, widely respected for being powerful for its size and bulletproof. 3-speed manual transmission, manual top, windup windows, etc. This makes the car unusual, as most are ordered with at least a few options. In some collector circles, "base" cars are interesting and desirable, as so few of them exist.Being base doesn't detract from the enjoyment of this car, as the top folds down in seconds by hand and will not present the inevitable problems of a vintage convertible top mechanisms. Stick shifts are way more fun to drive, and the T 6-cylinder engine has plenty of power and is fuel efficient (runs on regular. This Mustang has had a complete restoration as you can see. It received a superb paint job over a rust-free body. The undercarriage, trunk and engine compartment are excellent, as is the interior, top, dash, etc. Note that the chrome and stainless are excellent, usually not the case except of quality restorations. The car's mechanicals have been gone though with roughly 1k miles on the engine and transmission rebuild, as well as a new fuel system, gas tank, starter, convertible top, etc. If you are looking for an economical way to get into the Mustang world without buying a poor quality car, this is an unusually fine opportunity. Not to mention that its factory color combination of Palomino exterior and Parchment interior is rarely seen and quite beautiful. For Sale By Owner and Located in Mattituck, NY
