Condition 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible! (426ci HEMI / 465hp) One of the most Iconic cars in Muscle Car history is also one of the rarest. In 1970, both the 'Cuda (BS code) and Barracuda (BH code) were available. Both made by Plymouth. In 1970, the Barracuda was available with a V6 or the 318ci V8. The 'Cuda was available with all the muscle. A 340, 383, 440 and the Holy Grail, the 426 Hemi were all engine options for the Cuda. Both cars were available as a convertible. Now here is the RARE part. Only 2,050 convertibles were ordered in 1970. Only 14 'Cuda Convertibles came factory equipped with the 426 Hemi engine. Today, if you can find one of the original Cars, it will cost you a minimum of $1,000,000 and as much as $2,500,000. This 1970 Barracuda Convertible you see here, is a far more reasonable alternative especially financially. This Barracuda Convertible came factory equipped with a 318ci V8 engine but is now fitted with a new Mopar Performance 426 Hemi engine complete with 2 (period correct) Carter AFB carburetors pushing 465hp. This engine had been expertly torn down, rebuilt and fully blueprinted upon delivery. This alone is incredible but the story of this car is even more amazing. This three owner car has just 17100 actual miles since new.... Yes, since new as in 1970!! This Barracuda has a complete ownership history and a plenty of documentation. Purchased new on March 25, 1970 at Flatlands Plymouth in Brooklyn NY, the proud owner's name, address and purchase price is clearly stated on the original window sticker, dealer invoice and warranty info. The near perfect build sheet was only recently pulled from behind the back seat. There is Documentation from the original owner showing just 11,930 original miles in 2000 and also a bill of sale showing just 11,980 miles when the current owner purchased the car in 2009. The second owner basically commissioned the Hemi-fication and then it was stored away with the other cars in his collection for another 9 years. This car has never left the state of New York. The pictures will show a photo of the original owner taken next to the car back in 1970 AND a photo of the same original owner along side the third and final owner taken just over five years ago. The original owner moth balled the car in a garage in Brooklyn until 1999 when he had the body repainted to its original and rare factory Black color (X9) at Alplex Autobody and Restorations of Waterford CT. The new paint was done in two stage clear coat. The second owner had V&V Automotive Machine in Wappinger Falls, NY do the Hemi-Cuda upgrades and expert engine blueprinting which was documented in the High Performance Mopar magazine shown. A full 3 page article was written. Recently, the current owner having at this point the car mechanically completed, had the paint touched up, wet sanded and re- cleared. Today, the body and paint is Flawless as is the original interior (except the new front bucket seat skins), original white power top with original rear glass window and spotless undercarriage. About this Barracuda.... During the addition of custom frame connectors, thermal insulation was added to keep inside noise and heat to a minimum. All body panels are (rust free) original panels. The car has never been hit and only driven on fair weather days. All glass is original! The windshield is perfectly clear. The factory Black (X9 code)paint on black interior is this cars stock colors and a rare combination. (see original trim tag photo). Factory options include power steering, power brakes, light package, Rallye Cluster gauge package, three speed automatic transmission with (Pistol Grip) Slapstick Shifter, AM Radio with MP3 conversion hookup in the ash tray (as shown) and more... This car was Pre-Ordered by the original owner. The original invoice is dated February 20th, 1970 yet was not delivered until March 25th when he returned from the armed services. The 426ci Hemi, Drivetrain & more... The radiator is upgraded to a 26inch 4-core that keeps her cool all summer long! Fuel lines were upsized to feed the dual quad carbs. A Gear Vendor Over & Under drive has also been added. The rear is a Rebuilt Dana 60 w/3:73 gears (@ 2:90 w/ overdrive). Other upgrades include a period correct Hemi K frame. Superstock torsion bars & leaf springs, front & rear sway bars, TTI headers, a full TTI dual exhaust setup, and Mopar electronic ignition with a hidden MSD. The car is super reliable, it runs and handles as good as it looks. EVERYTHING WORKS at it should and she looks far better than the day she left the factory! It can run all day with a one of a kind look and feel with Hemi power to back it up. The overall condition of this car is MINT/Flawless.
