Description
1969 Chevrolet Chevelle L78 SS – 4-Speed Project This 1969 Chevelle L78 4-speed is a rare, largely unmolested project that has been sitting for over 30 years. It retains its build sheet, U14 SS gauge package, and chambered exhaust, making it a highly desirable big-block Chevelle. The car has been repainted but shows no obvious bodywork.
Floors and trunk are solid, with rust in the lower quarters and fenders; rockers and door jambs are very solid, and the doors close properly. The rear window channel needs repair but is fixable. The numbers-matching Muncie M21 and rear end are still with the car.
The original engine is gone, but included is a date-correct JD L78 block with many correct components: heads, intake, Holley carb, starter, water pump, fan blade, distributor, air cleaner, exhaust manifolds, valve covers, original shifter, and more. Also included are NOS fenders (2) and an NOS quarter panel. All original trim and T3 headlights are present and in good condition.
Interior components and gauges are original; the front seat needs work and the rear seat is missing. A rare opportunity to restore one of the most sought-after Chevelles—second only to the LS6.

Classic Chevrolet Chevelle Buyer's Guide
The Chevrolet Chevelle launched in 1964 as Chevrolet's mid-size A-body entry, and within two years it had become the foundation of one of the most successful muscle-car lineages in American automotive history. The 1970 LS6 SS454 Chevelle remains the high-water mark of factory muscle-car horsepower from the entire era — a rating of 450 horsepower from a stock 454 that put GM's Chevelle definitively at the top of the 1970 muscle-car hierarchy. Across fourteen model years (1964-1977), the Chevelle market is one of the deepest and most active segments in the entire American collector hobby — with documented original SS454 cars commanding six-figure money and clean driver-quality cars remaining attainable. This guide covers what every buyer should verify before paying premium money for any Chevelle SS variant.
