Description
This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu sport coupe was refurbished in 2016, which included refinishing the exterior in metallic orange and silver with black and green accent stripes. The ZZ502 crate V8 is equipped with Edelbrock aluminum heads and a NASCAR Edition intake manifold as well as a Holley carburetor, and power is routed through a modified 700R4 automatic transmission that is linked to a limited-slip differential with 3.73:1 gears. The car rides on a high-performance suspension with coilovers and heavy-duty sway bars, and the Boyd Coddington 17 wheels are mounted over power four-wheel disc brakes.
Details include a cowl-induction hood, SS-style trim, black and gray vinyl upholstery, a digital stereo, air conditioning, and front bucket seats. The metallic orange upper and silver pearl lower sections are separated by a black stripe with green outlines, and a matching paint scheme extends to the modified firewall. The glass and weather seals were replaced along with the inner fenders, radiator support, and rocker panel trim.
Details include an SS-style grille and tail panel, quad headlights, replacement chrome bumpers, and a cowl induction hood with retainer pins. Polished Boyd Coddington 17 wheels are mounted with a mixed set of Kumho front and Nitto rear tires. The suspension has been modified with tubular A-arms, polyurethane bushings, Ridetech front coilovers, heavy-duty sway bars, and adjustable QA1 rear coilovers.
Braking is handled by electrically assisted four-wheel discs with Wilwood front calipers. The steering box, lines, and fittings were replaced. The front bucket and rear bench seats are upholstered in black and gray vinyl and are joined by SS-style door panels.
Appointments include a horseshoe-style shifter, billet console trim and sill plates, front shoulder belts, air conditioning, a digital radio, and aftermarket kick-panel and parcel shelf speakers. The aftermarket steering wheel sits on a tilting column and fronts factory-style instrumentation. Autogage readouts for oil pressure, voltage, and water temperature are mounted below the dashboard.
The cowl induction hood opens on billet Eddie Motorsports hinges to reveal a ZZ502 crate V8 that was assembled with aluminum Edelbrock heads, forged pistons, a steel crankshaft and connecting rods, and a hydraulic roller camshaft. It is also equipped with a Milodon high-volume oil pump, an Edelbrock NASCAR Edition intake manifold, a Holley carburetor, MSD ignition, a revised accessory drive setup, and an orange air cleaner assembly and valve covers. Ceramic-coated Sanderson headers flow to a dual exhaust system with electric cut-outs and Flowmaster mufflers.
Cooling is handled by a custom aluminum radiator with dual shrouded fans. 700R4 automatic transmission was assembled by Toy Shop Transmissions of Pomona, California, and fitted with a performance shift kit, a TCI high-capacity transmission plan, a remote fluid cooler, and a 1,500-rpm stall-speed torque converter. The rear end is equipped with a billet cover, a polished third-member, a limited-slip differential, 3.73:1 gears, and 28-spline competition-style axles. Classic Chevrolet Chevelle Buyer's Guide
The Chevrolet Chevelle launched in 1964 as Chevrolet's mid-size A-body entry, and within two years it had become the foundation of one of the most successful muscle-car lineages in American automotive history. The 1970 LS6 SS454 Chevelle remains the high-water mark of factory muscle-car horsepower from the entire era β a rating of 450 horsepower from a stock 454 that put GM's Chevelle definitively at the top of the 1970 muscle-car hierarchy. Across fourteen model years (1964-1977), the Chevelle market is one of the deepest and most active segments in the entire American collector hobby β with documented original SS454 cars commanding six-figure money and clean driver-quality cars remaining attainable. This guide covers what every buyer should verify before paying premium money for any Chevelle SS variant.
