This 1988 Ford Mustang convertible is one of approximately 700 examples modified by Saleen Autosports for the model year and is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car is finished in red with a black soft top over two-tone gray cloth upholstery, and Saleen modifications include revised body panels, revised suspension and braking components, 16″ basketweave wheels, a MOMO steering wheel, Flo-Fit front seats, and a Hurst shifter. Further appointments consist of air conditioning, a Pioneer head unit, and power accessories. It was delivered new to Don Hinds Ford in Fishers, Indiana, and was purchased by the previous owner in 2018. Now showing 64k miles. The car has a black convertible top, and the bodywork was modified by Saleen with revised side skirts and front and rear valances along with a rear wing, silver gradient side graphics, and a Saleen Mustang windshield banner. Work in 2019 included refinishing the car in red, by previous owner. The 16” Saleen basketweave wheels are mounted with 225/50 Westlake tires that have cracks in the sidewalls. The Racecraft suspension is comprised of specific-rate front and rear coil springs, urethane sway bar pivot bushings, and a horizontal axle damper. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel SVO-type disc brakes. The previous owner told us the front Flo-Fit bucket seats and the rear bench were reupholstered in two-tone gray cloth with red piping in 2024. Saleen Mustang embroidery accents the color-coordinated door panels. Appointments include air conditioning, a center armrest, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. The leather-wrapped three-spoke MOMO steering wheel frames Saleen Mustang-branded instrumentation including a 170-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for battery voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The 302ci High-Output V8 produced 225 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque when new. A three-point strut-tower brace spans the engine bay. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Loc limited-slip differential with 3.55:1 gearing. A plaque located ahead of the Hurst shifter indicates that this car was #557 modified by Saleen Autosport for the 1988 model year.
