The downsized 1979 Eldorado shed nearly a thousand pounds and gained independent rear suspension, and it sold extremely well. The engines are the catch: the 1981 V8-6-4 with early cylinder deactivation and the 4.1 liter HT-4100 both have known reliability records, and the 350 diesel is best avoided. The 1984-85 convertible reintroduction is the desirable body. These are affordable, comfortable entry classics for a buyer who reads the engine codes first.
