Chevrolet built the Chevy II in eighteen months to answer the Ford Falcon, a plain compact with a unibody and leaf-sprung rear axle. The Nova 400 was the top trim, and a Super Sport package arrived in 1963. Six-cylinder cars were the norm, but a dealer or owner could fit a small-block, and the 1965 283 V8 made these the starting point for the Nova hot-rod story.
